Saidapet

Saidapet is one of the southern suburban regions of Chennai city. The place is situated off the Anna Salai Road in the southern precincts of the city. MGR Nagar, Adyar and Kotturpuram are the neighboring city outskirts. The place houses a number of attractions, encompassing illustrious worshipping places and local attractions.Saidapet is basically a residential area and with provisions as are requisite to meet the demands of the local population. There are few markets, schools, small health care units and other small establishments. However, the place is well provided with some ancient and newly built temples. The temples, as are predominant in the entire state of Tamil Nadu, are special features of the place.The main attractions housed in Saidapet include Karaneeswara Temple, Soundareswarar Temple, Senguntha Kottam Sri Sivasubramanya Swamy temple and Kadumbaadi Chinnamman Kovil. The seven storeyed structure, Karaneeswarar Temple, is one thing not to be missed in Saidapet. This gopuaram temple consists of two prakrams. Likewise, the already mentioned temples features some characteristic traits and help in bringing the tourists and pilgrims to the city suburb. The place presents a rich and live picture during the annual celebrations of Brahmotsavam festival in these temple complexes.Accessibility
The place is about 8 kms from the Chennai Central (George Town) and lies in the south west of the referral point.
The popular means of accessing the region from Chennai city center is either by taking the bus or a train plying to the region. Saidapet Railway Station is located in the locality itself.
